2018: HOME / FRONT Lienz and the War 1914–1918

May 19 to October 26, 2018

Keep

A hundred years ago, Italy entered the First World War, opening a new front for Austria-Hungary. This front reached to the borders of the Lienz district and significantly affected life in the hinterland. Distressing, even strangely unsettling images tell the story of civilian life, but also of the wartime experiences of men on the mountain front.
The unique photo exhibition, like its predecessor in the Keep of the former Gorizia Residence, "Spotlight. Lienz and the Valley Floor," will bring the events of a hundred years ago closer to visitors with many never-before-seen images. History is conveyed in a new way, becomes tangible, and offers insights that were often not graspable.

Home/Front
The Tyrolean Archive for Photographic Documentation and Art (TAP) provides insights into the history of the city of Lienz and its population during the First World War based on selected photographs. The strands of development are placed in a larger spatial and temporal context to make continuities and peculiarities visible.
The military campaignends in chaos, the collapse of the Danube monarchy, the painful loss of South Tyrol. Even 100 years after the creation of the images, looking into the eyes of those affected at the time is more than pensive.
