Egger-Lienz and his Work at Bruck Castle

Albin Egger-Lienz, the most important Tyrolean painter of the 20th century and at the same time one of the great figures of modernism in Austria, laid the foundation for the extensive collection at Schloss Bruck himself through a donation in 1913. Here he found a congenial workplace, embedded in the history of his homeland, whose name is "Lienz","which he added to his own in 1891. The exhibition not only provides an overview of his artistic development... he added to his in 1891. The exhibition not only offers a cross-section of his artistic development...

Family Album

At the center of the first exhibition module in 2020 is a special family reunion. With the return of the works by Albin Egger-Lienz that were loaned to various state museums last season, rarely exhibited loans from private collections will also be on display.

One painting stands out: the artist"s daughter Ila, standing in the crib. "The stillness of the composition, the penetrating gaze of the young "Gitscheles," as Albin called his Ila - the work captivates you from the first moment," raves Weis about the painting, which is otherwise only visible in the Vienna MuseumsQuartier, as it comes from the private collection of the Leopold family.

Embedded in a new presentation, the family portraits allow Egger-Lienz himself to speak. With excerpts from letters to family, friends, and artists, the painter himself guides through the rooms, sharing private moments and personal views on his works. A poem to his father, with whom he had an intimate relationship, love letters to his wife Laura, or playful greetings to his three children accompany the masterpieces of modern art. Art that visitors far from urban centers would not expect..
