On January 29, 2018, Albin Egger-Lienz celebrated his 150th birthday. On the occasion of the anniversary year, special events such as Sunday matinees on the life, work, and humanity of Egger-Lienz with guest speakers from various fields provide an additional perspective on the great son of Tyrol - but not without presenting his great works in a dignified exhibition.
By "Dance of Death. Egger-Lienz and the War", the impressive cooperation with the Austrian Gallery Belvedere in the summer of 2014, the Museum Schloss Bruck seizes the opportunity to present its extensive Egger-Lienz holdings - supplemented with some highlights from external collections - in a new adapted way. In 12 thematic areas, the personality and work of the most significant Tyrolean painter of the 20th century, but also complex questions such as "reception" and "restitution" are brought closer to the public. The works of the icon of Austrian modernism, Albin Egger-Lienz, have already been shown many times in the impressive museum rooms of Schloss Bruck. But time and again, it is possible to discover new facets of his work, in his life. From these, the new permanent exhibition "I do not paint peasants, but shapes" was conceived. In the interplay between extraordinary loans and the outstanding pieces of the museum"s own collection of the Museum of the City of Lienz, the personality and the work of Egger-Lienz are presented.The contemporary intervention of the South Tyrolean sculptor Lois Anvidalfarei "Ecce Homo" like Albin Egger-Lienz places the human figure at the center and asks the question: Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?
