One hundred ten years of museum history, diverse collection areas, and a wealth of objects provide an opportunity to showcase a selection from the holdings. Some themes and object groups are highlighted and presented in a spotlight manner. Each room tells its own short story.
In three depots there are over 10,000 inventoried objects from various areas. These include works of art history from the Gothic period to the present day – such as sculptures, paintings, graphics, and photographs – archaeological evidence from prehistoric and early history, significant objects from regional history, and the natural history collection. Objects from folklore and folk art, including furniture, costumes, flags, and tableware, document the everyday and festive culture of past times. One of the oldest collections is the collectionof rural and commercial tools.
The splendor of past times can also be found in the Knights" Hall, which presents saints as mediators between God and man with the exhibition "So Close to Heaven." The Gorizia Altar, a late Gothic jewel with depictions of Leonhard and Paola, showcases the splendor and glory of the Middle Ages, as does the banner painting of the Lienz bakers and millers with a variation of the popular Tyrolean miraculous image "Maria Hilf" by Lucas Cranach, and many other treasures from the museum"s rich collection.
The exhibition is additionally supported by the Raiffeisen Landesbank Tyrolthat State of Tyrolthe Felbertauern Road. Thank you very much!
