Artwork Alps

West wing

The gallery in the west wing is starting the 2015 exhibition season with the “Artwork of the Alps”, large-format photographs by Bernhard Edmaier. The fascinating picture journey shows the history of the creation of this mighty mountain range in the heart of Europe, traces the changes and impresses in the four subject areas of rock, collision, Ice and erosion with the art that the nature that surrounds us offers. A focus is on the East Tyrol area, the region in which two opposing mountain types collide and offer visitors bizarre and powerful spectacles: the Southern Alps with their spectacular Dolomites made of light limestone layers that were once deposited in a shallow tropical sea, and the massifs of the Central Alps, whose dark gneiss and slate rocks were formed deep in the earth"s interior and today form famous peaks such as the Großvenediger and the Großglockner.
