JOS PIRKNER
Figure and Space

Main building

The work of Jos Pirkner is full of tension, as he has crossed and broken boundaries in many ways. After artistic and academic training, he left Austria to mature into a master in the Netherlands. In the late 70s, he returned to his homeland while his art reached the whole world: Tyrol or Ruhrpott, Netherlands or United States, his works transcend borders.
Even Pirkner himself overcomes boundaries, those of art genres. Painting, sculpture, architecture, he masters them all and combines them in his plans and works for the Red Bull headquarters in Fuschl – to break through space here as well. 14 monumental bulls, Europe"s largest bronze sculpture, burst through the building he planned. The immense power of the bulls also exemplifies the core of his artistic work: the representation of bodies, movement, and emotions, capturing a moment. TheThe exhibition "Figure and Space" at Schloss Bruck provides insight into the life of the artist, exemplifies an impression of his diverse work, and is a tribute to the East Tyrolean artist closely connected to his homeland, who has long since become an internationally recognized figure.
