2010: GOTHIC & BAROQUE Part I - Treasures from the Puster Valley

May 22 – October 24, 2010

The Puster Valley between Brixen and Lienz has always been a region shaped by traffic and trade. Brixen, Bruneck, Innichen, Sillian, and Lienz with their artists also enlivened the sacred art of the valley.

The exhibition "GOTHIC:BAROQUE. Treasures from the Pustertal" offers an insight into the artistic facets of this region. The gaze turns back to the late Romanesque period, echoing the art of the early 19th century. Gothic and Baroque sculptures and paintings from churches and chapels manifest the yearning of people in faith: Christ as the way to redemption, saints and Mary as intercessors, the passion of Christ, as well as the sacred image programs on altarpieces and frescoes of the castle chapel as an expression ofArt at the Gorizia Court in Lienz are themes of this exhibition.

The Museum of the City of Lienz Castle Bruck aims to build a regional bridge between Brixen and Lienz with this exhibition. The collaboration with important museums in Bolzano, Brixen, Bruneck, Innichen, and Innsbruck emphasizes the museum"s regional political activity.
