2001: Albin Egger-Lienz 1868 - 1926

19.05. - 04.11.2001

The convergence of two favorable circumstances has made it possible to make an Egger-Lienz exhibition, which has never been shown to this extent, accessible to the public: On the one hand, all exhibition spaces of Schloss Bruck are available after clearing the State Exhibition 2000 and before the redesign of the museum. On the other hand, the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum is currently under construction, making it possible for the first time to bring together the most important 3 "Tyrolean Collections" for an exhibition.

The majority of the works on display come from the holdings of the city of Lienz, the state of Tyrol and the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum. There is no need for a commemorative year to draw attention to Egger"s supra-regional importance for Austrian painting. Nevertheless: Egger died 75 years ago on November 4, 1926. No other 20th century painter from Tyrol can have a similar impact as Albin Egger-Lienz; since Defregger, no one has shaped the idea of “Tyrolean art” as much as he did. The aim of the exhibition is to solve the difficult task of presenting the complexity and difficult classification in the field of tension between tradition and modernity, striking monumentality and the highest painting culture in as many facets as possible. It is definitely a contribution to the discussion of Albin Egger-Lienz"s work.
